Inbound Shipments

When your shipment first arrives, you should perform the following steps.

US Shipping Map
  1. Check the labels to verify that the packages are yours.
  2. Visually inspect the shipment/packages for damage
  3. Verify that you are only signing for the packages that you are receiving. Review the carrier’s paperwork to make sure the piece count matches. Before the driver leaves, be sure to note any discrepancies on both the driver’s and your delivery paperwork (ie; Short 1 box or, All boxes soaked in motor oil).

Inbound Tracking/Planning

Most carriers have some type of online tracking tool monitor your shipments. Several carriers provide tools, which can help you to manage your inbound shipment processing. The tools provide visibility to your in-transit shipments and can notify you of their expected delivery date. This can help you adjust and plan staffing requirements, maintain inventory availability data for your staff and ensure warehouse storage space is available prior to the receipt of your shipment. The FedEx tool is called Insight, which is available at FedEx.com. YRC provides an online tool that provides ProActive tracking capabilities. However, you will need to create a MyYRC online profile in order to access the information.
